Every dog has his day!
No truer words were ever spoken. Each one also has his or her own story. Some of those are recounted here, for your enjoyment, amusement, or heartfelt sympathy.
New Spirit volunteers work hard to make sure that our dogs get that day in the sun!
Siggins' Story
Siggins was found in an outdoor shelter, dirty, matted and so debilitated that he could not wag his tail. The victim of what appeared to be years of neglect by his owner, he was picked up as a stray after being hit by a car. Due to his age, about 12 years, he was not a good candidate for adoption in the shelter.
Fortunately, he caught the eye of a rescue worker and was pulled from the shelter. After months of rehab, his injuries healed as well as could be expected for a senior dog and he was eventually adopted by a loving couple that wanted to give an old dog a good home. As of early 2010, he is still going strong! Every day is now Siggin's day thanks to people who cared. His story is the essence of rescue.

Kobe
Kobe is a 2-1/2 year old, black tri male Australian Shepherd who lost his young owner to cancer. Since then he’s been bounced around a lot for no reason other than the fact that he’s a lively, young active boy who needs the right home. Because his first owner was a young woman, Kobe’s become used to softer voices and handling. He doesn’t like to be rushed. He has a strong reserve but does warm up.
He hasn’t been around many men but the foster mom’s 20-year old grandson has been making
a special effort to get him more accustomed to
them with long walks and playing with balls.
Kobe has learned the fine art of chasing and returning a thrown ball, which he believes to be such fun. He is housebroken but a bit insecure when left alone. Kobe would love a home that
is quieter and where there are not a lot of harsh voices. He’s just a really nice, velcro boy who’s had a rough start in Life and he’d love his own person to stick close to.
His foster mom says that he is doing very well
and has come a long way.
Kobe is being fostered in Western WV.

Chapin
Chapin is a 4-year-old black tri mix whose owner turned him into a local shelter during a difficult divorce. When his time at the shelter was running out, a poodle rescue group intervened despite his obvious lack of poodle genes! He was just too cute to pass up!
Chapin would make a fantastic sports dog. He is high energy with a ball drive that won't stop. He is eager to please and knows "sit," "stay," "shake" and "watch me." Pay any sort of attention to him and he wags his whole body and wants more. He would graduate at the top of any obedience class and rock any agility ring. He is great with men and women, but would need a little more work with kids because of his age and energy. He hasn't had many chances to interact with cats either. Chapin is approximately 24 inches tall and weighs about 56 pounds - and yes - he is as sweet as he looks in his photo!
Chapin's current home is Carolina Poodle Rescue's Dreamweaver farms near Spartanburg, SC. He loves his poodle pals, but wants to find a home where he is appreciated for his Aussie-ness! Please visit their web page at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org to fill out an application. Oh - a fenced in yard is required!
